D.C. POWER SUPPLY UNIT RECTIFICATION

Rectification is the process of converting alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). Think of it as changing the direction of water flow in a pipe from back-and-forth movement to one-way movement only. AC electricity from your NEPA power line constantly reverses direction, but most electronics like your phone charger, laptop, and television need steady one-way current to work properly.

A rectifier is a device that does this job. The most common type uses diodes, which are like one-way valves for electricity. When you plug your phone into a Nigerian wall socket, the charger's rectifier circuit converts the AC power to DC, allowing your battery to charge correctly. Without rectification, your phone would be damaged instantly.
