Pictorial drawing helps you show 3D objects on a 2D paper so they look realistic. Three main types exist: isometric, oblique, and perspective drawing.
Isometric drawing uses equal scales on all three axes, making it popular for technical drawings. Oblique drawing keeps the front face true size while pushing other sides back at an angle, useful for showing depth quickly. Perspective drawing mimics how your eye sees objects, with lines meeting at vanishing points—either one point or two points depending on the view angle.
Think of drawing a Nigerian mud house. In isometric, all sides scale equally. In oblique, the front wall stays accurate while the side recedes. In perspective, the walls appear to shrink toward a distant point, like railway tracks disappearing into the horizon.
Circles appear as ellipses in isometric and oblique drawings, requiring special techniques. Free hand sketching demands steady hand control and understanding proportions.
