Pictorial Drawing: Isometric and Oblique Methods

Pictorial drawing shows a 3D object on a flat 2D paper so it looks real and solid. Two main methods exist: isometric and oblique drawing.

In isometric drawing, all three axes are equally important, creating a balanced view where vertical lines stay vertical, while other lines tilt at 30 degrees. This method gives an accurate sense of proportion. Think of drawing a Nigerian house—the front, side, and top appear equally clear and realistic.

Oblique drawing is simpler. You draw the front face normally (like looking straight at it), then push the depth backwards at 45 degrees. This method works well for objects with detailed front views.
