Derived quantities are physical measurements we create by combining base quantities together. Think of them as "recipe quantities"—just like you combine flour, water, and salt to make a new thing called dough, physicists combine basic measurements to make new ones. For example, speed is derived by dividing distance (a base quantity) by time (another base quantity). In Nigeria, when a commercial bus travels 120 kilometers in 2 hours, that bus's speed of 60 km/h is a derived quantity. Other examples include acceleration, force, pressure, and energy. Every derived quantity has dimensions that show which base quantities went into making it. Understanding derived quantities helps you solve complex physics problems because you can work backwards from what you're looking for to figure out what measurements you actually need.
