Sports administration in Nigeria operates at three levels, like a pyramid. At the national level, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development oversees all sporting activities through agencies like the Nigerian Olympic Committee. These bodies create policies and standards for the entire country.

State governments manage sports within their regions, organizing competitions and training facilities. They implement national policies locally while supporting grassroots development. Local government areas handle community sports programs, primary and secondary school competitions, and grassroots talent identification.

Think of it this way: national level sets the rules, states enforce them regionally, and local governments ensure ordinary Nigerians participate in sports. For example, the national team qualifies for the World Cup at the top level, while your state might organize inter-school athletics championships at the middle level, and your local council funds the stadium where you train.
