Non-communicable diseases are health conditions that cannot spread from one person to another through contact or germs. Unlike malaria or typhoid, you cannot catch them from someone else. Tetanus is a serious muscle disease caused by a toxin from bacteria found in soil, often entering through deep wounds. Diabetes mellitus occurs when your body cannot control blood sugar levels properly, making your pancreas weak. Sickle cell anaemia is an inherited blood disorder where red blood cells become crescent-shaped, causing severe pain and organ damage. Many Nigerians suffer from sickle cell disease because of our genetics, making it a major health challenge in our country. These diseases develop over time due to factors like poor diet, lack of exercise, genetics, or injuries, and require long-term management rather than quick cures.
