The Endocrine System: Glands and Hormones

The endocrine system consists of small organs called glands that produce chemicals called hormones. These hormones travel through your bloodstream to control important body functions like growth, reproduction, and metabolism. The pituitary gland in your brain is the master gland controlling other glands. The thyroid gland in your neck produces thyroid hormone which speeds up your metabolism. The pancreas produces insulin to control blood sugar levels. Your adrenal glands produce adrenaline, which gives you energy during stress or excitement, similar to when a Nigerian student suddenly gets energy before their WAEC exam. The ovaries in females and testes in males produce sex hormones for reproduction and development.

Understanding where each gland sits in the body and what hormone it produces is crucial for answering endocrine system questions correctly.
