A transducer is a device that converts energy from one form to another. In communication systems, sensors detect signals and transducers change them into forms we can use. Think of a microphone as a transducer—it converts sound waves from your voice into electrical signals that travel through a telephone network.
Consider how Nigerian radio stations work: the microphone at Wazobia FM studio is a transducer converting a presenter's voice into electrical pulses. These pulses travel through circuits and eventually become radio waves broadcasted across Lagos. The speaker in your radio is another transducer, changing those electrical signals back into sound you hear.
Different transducers suit different purposes. Antennas convert electromagnetic waves to electrical signals, while loudspeakers do the reverse. Understanding how transducers transform energy helps you grasp how communication systems function from start to finish.
