WAEC SSCE Commerce
Study notes for BUSINESS UNITS — part of the WAEC SSCE Commerce syllabus. 1 learning objectives with explanations and exam tips.
Business simply means any activity where people produce or exchange goods and services to make profit. The main objective is earning money, but businesses also aim to satisfy customer needs and create employment. When you visit Shoprite or a local market woman selling tomatoes, both are in business. They're providing what people want while making income.
Beyond profit, businesses help develop communities by providing jobs and tax revenue for government. They also create competition which keeps prices reasonable for consumers. Think about how telecommunications companies like MTN and Airtel compete to offer better services at lower costs.
Understanding business objectives helps you appreciate why companies make certain decisions. Whether it's a small corner shop or a large manufacturing firm, the drive to profit while serving customers shapes everything they do.
