Nature of God

The prophet Amos taught that true religion isn't just about offering sacrifices or going to church; it's about treating people fairly and justly. God cares more about how you live your life and treat others, especially the poor and weak, than about religious ceremonies. Amos criticized wealthy Israelites who worshipped God on Sundays but cheated their workers and ignored suffering people during the week. This same message applies in Nigeria today. A businessman might attend church faithfully but still exploit his workers with unfair wages and dangerous working conditions. According to Amos, such a person isn't truly practicing religion because they've separated worship from justice. Real faith demands that you act justly in all your dealings, show mercy to vulnerable people, and work against corruption and oppression in society.

The book of Hosea teaches us that God's love is unconditional and never-ending, even when we fail Him. God commanded the prophet Hosea to marry Gomer, an unfaithful woman, to show how Israel kept turning away from God despite His endless care. Just as Hosea continued loving Gomer and took her back, God continues loving His people even when they disobey Him. This love isn't based on what we deserve but flows from God's merciful nature.

Think of it like a parent in Lagos whose child keeps making poor choices and running away from home, yet the parent never stops hoping for their return and welcomes them back with open arms. That's how God loves us through Hosea's example. God's love is patient, forgiving, and permanent.
