Herbivorous animals, on the other hand, are plant-eaters that feed only on vegetation like grasses, leaves, fruits, and seeds. Modifications of the Alimentary Canal

This allows the cow to chew cud—regurgitating food to chew it again—making digestion very efficient.

Other animals have different modifications too. Carnivores have sharp teeth for tearing meat, while herbivores have flat molars for grinding plant material. Some animals have longer intestines to absorb nutrients from plant matter, while others have shorter intestines because meat digests faster.
