WAEC SSCE Auto Mechanics
Study notes for SAFE MOTORING — part of the WAEC SSCE Auto Mechanics syllabus. 1 learning objectives with explanations and exam tips.
Safe motoring means driving responsibly to prevent accidents on our roads. The main causes of accidents in Nigeria include speeding, reckless driving, poor vehicle maintenance, and driver fatigue. Many accidents occur on Lagos-Ibadan expressway yearly because drivers ignore speed limits and overtake dangerously. Essential safe driving practices include maintaining safe distances between vehicles, using side mirrors, obeying traffic signals, and avoiding distractions like using mobile phones while driving. Safety devices like seatbelts, airbags, and working brakes protect passengers during collisions. The Highway Code teaches us traffic rules, road signs, and right-of-way regulations. Good driving habits and regular vehicle checks significantly reduce accident risks.
