Tangency means when two lines or curves touch at exactly one point without crossing each other. Think of it like a vehicle's wheel touching the ground—they meet at one spot perfectly. In technical drawing, we use tangency principles to design tools accurately.
Consider a spanner (wrench) used in Nigerian workshops. The curved handle must connect smoothly to the jaw part without sharp corners that could break or hurt your hand. Engineers construct these using tangent curves that flow into each other seamlessly. Similarly, anchor hooks used in construction sites have tangent arcs so they grip materials smoothly without stress points.
Mastering tangency helps you draw professional tools with strength and safety. When curves meet tangentially, stress distributes evenly rather than concentrating at corners.
