A roof is the covering on top of a building that protects it from rain, sun, and wind. In technical drawing, you need to know the different types and their parts. The main roof types are flat roofs, pitched roofs, and curved roofs. Pitched roofs are the most common in Nigeria—they have a sloping surface and are perfect for areas with heavy rainfall. You'll find pitched roofs on many Nigerian homes and schools because water drains off easily.
The key parts of a roof include the rafters, which are the wooden beams that support the roof structure, the ridge which is the highest point where two slopes meet, and the eaves, which are the parts that overhang the walls. The purlins run horizontally across the rafters and help distribute weight evenly. Understanding how these parts connect is crucial for drawing roofs accurately in your technical exams.
