Division of lines means splitting a straight line into equal or proportional parts using geometric methods. This skill is crucial in technical drawing because many real-world projects require precision division.
To divide a line into equal parts, you use the parallel line method. Draw a construction line at an angle from one endpoint, mark equal spaces on it using a compass, then draw parallel lines back to your original line. Each intersection point divides your line equally.
Consider a Nigerian example: when designing the layout of a classroom with desks, you might need to divide a 9-metre wall into four equal sections for display boards. Using division techniques ensures accurate, professional spacing.
