An electromagnetic field is the region of space around a moving electric charge or magnet where electric and magnetic forces can be felt. Think of it as an invisible force zone that surrounds anything carrying electricity or magnetism. When electrons move through a wire, they create both an electric field and a magnetic field around that wire simultaneously. These two fields work together and affect each other, which is why we call it "electromagnetic."
A practical example you see daily is the electric transformer on poles around Nigerian neighbourhoods. Inside that transformer, alternating electric current creates a changing magnetic field, which then produces an electric field. This electromagnetic interaction is what allows electricity to be transferred from one coil to another without direct contact.
The strength of this field decreases the farther you move away from its source. Understanding electromagnetic fields is crucial because they explain how motors, generators, and wireless communication work.
