WAEC SSCE Health Science
Study notes for FIRST AID AND SAFETY — part of the WAEC SSCE Health Science syllabus. 1 learning objectives with explanations and exam tips.
First aid means the immediate help given to an injured or sick person before a doctor arrives. It's the quick action you take to prevent the situation from getting worse. When someone falls off a motorcycle on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and gets badly scraped, applying clean bandages and raising the injured leg stops excessive bleeding and reduces infection risk. That's first aid in action.
Safety education teaches us how to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. This includes following traffic rules, using proper equipment in laboratories, and knowing fire escape routes in buildings. Both concepts work together: safety stops problems before they start, while first aid handles emergencies when prevention fails.
Understanding these skills could save someone's life, whether at home, school, or in your community.
