The crucifixion of Jesus was His execution by Roman soldiers on a wooden cross at Golgotha. This happened around 30 AD when Pontius Pilate, the Roman governor, sentenced Jesus to death. Jesus was crucified alongside two criminals, and the Gospels describe how He suffered, died, and was buried in a tomb belonging to Joseph of Arimathea, a wealthy follower.
The burial of Jesus was significant because it proved He actually died. His body was wrapped in linen cloth and placed in a sealed tomb, guarded by soldiers. This event is central to Christian faith because Christians believe Jesus rose from the dead three days later, which is celebrated as Easter.
Think of it like when we honour our ancestors by burying them with respect in Nigeria—Jesus's burial showed His humanity and made His resurrection even more meaningful to His followers.
The Resurrection refers to Jesus Christ rising from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. Christians believe that after Jesus died on the cross on Friday, his body was placed in a tomb. On Sunday morning, he rose to life again, defeating death and sin forever. This event is central to Christian faith because it proves Jesus is God's son and gives believers hope for eternal life.
Think of it like this: Just as a student who fails an exam can retake it and pass, Jesus conquered death, showing that nothing is impossible with God. The Resurrection happened in Jerusalem around 33 AD and is celebrated yearly on Easter Sunday. Apostles witnessed the risen Jesus before his ascension to heaven, which strengthened their faith to spread Christianity.
