Solubility simply means how much of a substance can dissolve in a liquid, usually water, at a particular temperature. Think of it like adding sugar to your tea – at first the sugar dissolves completely, but if you keep adding more, eventually it won't dissolve anymore and sits at the bottom. That point where no more can dissolve is called saturation.
Different substances have different solubility levels. Salt dissolves very well in water, which is why our Nigerian seas are salty. However, oil doesn't dissolve in water at all – that's why you'll notice oil and water don't mix when cooking. Temperature matters too; hot water dissolves more sugar than cold water.
Some substances are soluble, meaning they dissolve easily. Others are insoluble, meaning they don't dissolve. Understanding this helps explain chemical reactions and how substances behave.
