The nose is the organ that allows you to smell different things around you. It contains special sensory cells called olfactory receptors that detect odour molecules floating in the air. When you inhale, these molecules enter your nasal cavity and trigger signals that travel to your brain, which then identifies what you're smelling.

The nose also warms and moistens the air you breathe before it reaches your lungs, protecting them from damage. The Skin as a Sense Organ

The skin has different layers: the epidermis (outer layer), dermis (middle layer with blood vessels and nerves), and hypodermis (inner fatty layer). This protective response happens automatically through nerve impulses traveling to your spinal cord and back.
