Both plant and animal cells are living units with similar basic structures. They both contain a nucleus that controls cell activities, cytoplasm where chemical reactions happen, and a cell membrane that controls what enters and leaves. Both have mitochondria for energy production and ribosomes for making proteins.
However, plant cells have three extra structures that animal cells lack. The cell wall outside the cell membrane provides support and protection—this is why plant stems stay rigid like a cassava stick. Plant cells also contain chloroplasts for photosynthesis, making their own food using sunlight. Additionally, plant cells have large vacuoles that store water, keeping the plant firm and fresh.
Animal cells, found in humans and other creatures, lack these three structures. Instead, animal cells have smaller vacuoles and can change shape more easily, which is why muscle cells can contract. These differences exist because plants and animals have different needs for survival.
