Study notes for ART ENTREPRENEURSHIP — part of the JAMB UTME Art syllabus. 1 learning objectives with explanations and exam tips.
Visual arts entrepreneurship means creating and selling art-related products or services to earn money. Many Nigerian artists now generate income beyond traditional gallery exhibitions. You can work as a graphic designer creating logos for businesses, a portrait artist selling commissioned works, or an art teacher running your own studio. Some artists produce crafts like beadwork, pottery, or textile design for local and international markets. Digital art has opened new paths—animators and digital illustrators earn from animation studios and online platforms. Consider Yinka Shonibare, a Nigerian-British artist whose textile installations are sold internationally, proving that Nigerian creativity has global market value. You might also become an art curator, gallery owner, or art consultant. The key is identifying what art skill you have and finding customers willing to pay for it. Whether it's fine art, commercial art, or craft production, the visual arts field offers genuine entrepreneurial possibilities.
