Admission requirements for Yoruba at University Of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, Oyo State.
Five (5) &sqO&sq level subjects at one sitting or 6 &sqO&sq level subjects at two sittings to include: English Language, one Arts subject and any other three or four subjects from Arts, Social Sciences or Science.
Yoruba as an academic discipline offers students a rigorous exploration of one of Africa's most widely spoken languages, examining its linguistics, literature, oral traditions, cultural history, and contemporary usage. Students engage deeply with Yoruba phonology, morphology, prose, poetry, drama, and folklore, while also developing competencies in translation, language documentation, and creative writing. The programme equips graduates to pursue rewarding careers as secondary school teachers registered with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), broadcast journalists and language presenters with radio and television stations, cultural officers in government ministries, and professional translators or interpreters serving corporate and diplomatic organisations. Graduates may also advance into postgraduate research, contributing meaningfully to the preservation and global promotion of Yoruba language and heritage.
