Veterinary Medicine is a five-to-six-year professional degree programme that trains students in animal health, disease diagnosis, surgery, public health, and food safety. Students gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical experience covering livestock, companion animals, and wildlife management. The curriculum includes anatomy, pharmacology, microbiology, pathology, and epidemiology, preparing graduates to handle diverse animal health challenges across Nigeria's agricultural landscape. Upon graduation, students must be registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria (VCN) before practising professionally. Career opportunities span private veterinary practice, livestock and poultry production management, government veterinary services, and food safety inspection roles within agencies such as NAFDAC and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture. Graduates also pursue postgraduate research and academic careers.
