Urban and Regional Planning is a multidisciplinary programme that equips students with the knowledge and skills to design, manage, and develop sustainable human settlements. Students study land use planning, housing policy, environmental management, transportation systems, urban economics, geographic information systems, and Nigerian planning legislation. The programme blends theoretical frameworks with practical fieldwork, preparing graduates to address the unique spatial and developmental challenges facing Nigerian cities and rural communities. Career opportunities exist in government ministries and planning authorities, real estate development firms, environmental consulting, and international development organisations. Graduates may also pursue roles in urban research and policy advisory. The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners, NITP, is the relevant professional body, and registration with the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria, TOPREC, is required for licensed practice.
