About Human Nutrition & Dietetics

Human Nutrition and Dietetics is a four to five year undergraduate programme that equips students with scientific knowledge of food, nutrients, and their relationship to human health. Students study biochemistry, food microbiology, clinical nutrition, community nutrition, and therapeutic dietetics, gaining both theoretical foundations and practical clinical skills. The programme prepares graduates to assess, diagnose, and manage nutritional disorders across diverse populations. Upon graduation, professionals can pursue careers as clinical dietitians in hospitals, public health nutritionists, food and nutrition policy advisors, or nutrition consultants in the food industry. The Dietitians Association of Nigeria regulates practice and supports professional development, while some graduates advance into research and academia, contributing meaningfully to Nigeria's ongoing battle against malnutrition and diet-related diseases.
