Fisheries is a science-based programme that equips students with practical and theoretical knowledge of aquatic ecosystems, fish biology, aquaculture management, fish processing, and the sustainable harvesting of marine and freshwater resources. Students explore topics such as limnology, fish genetics, fisheries economics, and post-harvest technology, preparing them for a dynamic sector central to Nigeria's food security and export economy. Graduates can pursue careers as aquaculture farm managers, fisheries extension officers, fish processing entrepreneurs, or research scientists with federal and state government agencies. The Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON) serves as a key professional body, providing networking opportunities, regulatory guidance, and continued professional development for practitioners working across Nigeria's coastal, riverine, and inland fishing communities.
