Students explore Igbo linguistics, oral traditions, prose fiction, poetry, and drama, while also studying educational psychology, curriculum development, and pedagogy. The programme prepares graduates to become qualified secondary school Igbo language teachers, language curriculum developers, cultural preservation officers, and Igbo language broadcasters with organisations such as the NTA or FRCN. Graduates may equally pursue careers in publishing, contributing to Igbo textbook development and literacy materials. Professional registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) is mandatory for classroom practice, ensuring graduates meet national standards for quality teaching across Nigerian schools.
