Dental Technology is a fascinating allied health programme that equips students with the knowledge and technical skills required to design, fabricate, and repair dental prostheses and oral appliances. Students study subjects including dental materials science, oral anatomy, prosthodontics, orthodontic appliance construction, and maxillofacial technology, blending classroom theory with intensive laboratory practice. Graduates are well-positioned to pursue careers as dental technologists in hospitals, private dental laboratories, orthodontic clinics, and the military or prison health services. Some graduates establish independent commercial dental laboratories, which remain highly profitable across Nigerian cities. The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) regulates practice in this field, and registration is mandatory before graduates can legally practise as certified dental technologists anywhere in the country.
