About Common & Islamic Law

Common and Islamic Law is a unique dual-discipline programme that equips students with comprehensive knowledge of both the English common law tradition and the principles of Islamic jurisprudence (Sharia). Students examine contract law, constitutional law, criminal law, family law, and the Fiqh frameworks governing Muslim personal and commercial affairs. The programme also explores how both legal systems interact within Nigeria's pluralistic legal structure. Graduates are well-positioned to pursue careers as legal practitioners, Sharia court judges, legal advisors in northern Nigerian states, or academics in law faculties. Upon completing the Nigerian Law School, graduates are called to the Bar and admitted into the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the foremost professional body regulating legal practice in Nigeria.
