Arabic/History is a combined honours programme that equips students with proficiency in the Arabic language alongside a deep understanding of historical developments across Africa, the Middle East, and the wider world. Students explore classical and modern Arabic texts, Islamic civilisation, Nigerian and African history, colonial and post-colonial narratives, and historiographical methods. The programme sharpens critical thinking, research, translation, and communication skills highly valued across several sectors. Graduates pursue rewarding careers as diplomats and foreign service officers, historians and archivists, Arabic language teachers and curriculum developers, or translators and interpreters serving government agencies, international organisations, and media houses. Those entering the teaching profession may register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, while graduates in public service align with relevant civil service professional frameworks.
