About Agric Extension & Rural Development

Agricultural Extension and Rural Development is a multidisciplinary programme that equips students with the knowledge and skills to bridge the gap between agricultural research and farming communities. Students study rural sociology, communication techniques, farm management, crop and livestock production, community development, and agricultural policy. Emphasis is placed on how to effectively disseminate modern farming innovations to rural populations, improving food security and livelihoods across Nigeria. Graduates pursue rewarding careers as extension officers with state and federal ministries of agriculture, development consultants with NGOs and international agencies, agricultural project managers, and rural development planners. The Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON) serves as the primary professional body guiding practice and continuous development within this field.
