Social Studies/Yoruba is an interdisciplinary programme that equips students with a deep understanding of social sciences alongside the linguistic, literary, and cultural dimensions of the Yoruba language and people. Students explore topics such as civics, geography, history, economics, and sociology, while simultaneously developing proficiency in Yoruba oral traditions, grammar, literature, and cultural heritage. The programme prepares graduates for careers in education as secondary school teachers, where the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) provides professional certification. Beyond teaching, graduates find opportunities in cultural documentation, broadcasting with stations producing Yoruba-language content, journalism, and public administration. Those passionate about preserving indigenous knowledge may also pursue roles in heritage institutions, curriculum development agencies, or the creative arts industry.
