Petroleum Engineering is a four to five year undergraduate programme that equips students with the technical knowledge required to explore, extract, and manage hydrocarbon resources. Students study core subjects including reservoir engineering, drilling engineering, production technology, fluid mechanics, and petroleum geology, alongside foundational courses in mathematics, thermodynamics, and chemical engineering principles. The programme blends classroom theory with practical fieldwork and laboratory sessions, preparing graduates for the demands of Nigeria's oil and gas industry. Career opportunities span roles as reservoir engineers, drilling engineers, production engineers, and petroleum consultants within major oil companies, government agencies, and indigenous operators. Graduates are expected to register with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, as the recognised professional licensing body for engineers practising in the country.
