Medicine and Surgery is a rigorous six-year undergraduate programme that equips students with comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, and clinical medicine. Students rotate through core medical disciplines including internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, surgery, and psychiatry, gaining hands-on clinical exposure in teaching hospitals across the country. Upon graduation, students earn an MBBS degree and must complete a one-year housemanship before registering with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), the statutory body regulating medical practice. Career pathways include general medical practice, specialist medicine through residency training, public health and policy roles, and medical research. Nigeria's healthcare sector continues to demand qualified, skilled doctors across both public and private institutions nationwide.
