Medical Laboratory Science is a four-to-five-year undergraduate programme that trains students in the scientific analysis of human specimens to aid disease diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. Students study core disciplines including haematology, medical microbiology, chemical pathology, histopathology, immunology, and parasitology, alongside foundational sciences such as biochemistry and anatomy. Graduates are equipped to work as licensed medical laboratory scientists in government and private hospitals, research institutions, public health agencies, and the pharmaceutical industry. The programme is regulated by the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), which oversees professional licensing and practice standards nationwide. Career opportunities also extend into laboratory management, academic teaching, and medical research, making it a rewarding and consistently in-demand healthcare profession across Nigeria.
