History/Islamic Studies is a combined humanities programme that equips students with deep knowledge of historical events, civilisations, and the philosophical, legal, and theological foundations of Islam. Students examine pre-colonial and colonial African history, Islamic jurisprudence, Arabic language, Quranic studies, and the socio-political development of Muslim communities across the world. The programme sharpens critical thinking, research, and analytical writing skills that are highly transferable across multiple sectors. Graduates pursue rewarding careers as historians, archivists, diplomats, and Islamic scholars or clerics. Many find opportunities within the National Archives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and state-level Sharia courts. Membership of the Historical Society of Nigeria remains relevant for professional engagement and scholarly recognition within the academic community.
