Geophysics is a science-based programme that trains students to understand the physical properties of the Earth using mathematical, geological, and physical principles. Students study subjects such as seismology, gravity and magnetic surveys, electrical resistivity, remote sensing, well logging, and exploration techniques. The curriculum equips graduates with practical skills for interpreting subsurface data relevant to natural resource exploration and environmental investigations. In Nigeria, career opportunities are abundant across the oil and gas industry, solid minerals exploration, environmental consulting, and government geological survey agencies. Graduates may also pursue roles in groundwater investigation and engineering site assessments. Professional recognition is obtainable through the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, which regulates geophysical engineering practice nationwide.
